What is your divorce lawyer supposed to do for you?

I seem to be speaking a different languange than my divorce lawyer. I have broken it down into very simple terms that I want from my ex-husband. Still…I have not seen a financial affidavit from him nor do I agree with any of the settlement proposal so far……how do I know what is just the law and I am stuck with it and what might be that my divorce attorney just doesnt agree with me. My gut feeling is that he is used to settling very expensive corporate cases and we are just small peanuts to him so its not that important. What do you think?
